Puns

"A pun is the worst form of humor, unless you thought of it yourself."

Thus I present, "This booty's made for running."

Do you agree with this, or did you just quote it? If the former, then how is it that Shakespeare, arguably the most renowned and well-read writer of the English language, was a master of puns and incorporated them throughout his plays? Perhaps only Shakespeare thought they were funny, but it is remarkable that so many people would bypass this horrible form of humor to read and critically acclaim him. I think that puns (good ones) are one of the higher forms of humor, for the take a master of words. Anybody can make up a stupid one, but to make a pun worthy of note is, I'll say it, downright hilarious, to those who catch it.

What do you think? I follow a quotation about puns with a horrible pun of my own.
