Foreign Aid

An insightful piece by an Ugandan about why Foreign Aid, in its usual form, is counter-productive. What makes this piece different is that those who normally argue against foreign aid are on the giving, not the receiving end. Well worth the two minutes to read.

A little further reading on Uganda's failure to reach its EU sugar quota (something that doesn't make much economic sense) found an article with their sugar industry complaining about sugar smugglers. Don't know what to think, sugar can't simultaneously be too valuable to ship to Europe and too cheap to sell at home. Why don't people smuggle sugar into Uganda and sell it to the EU?
